Erectile dysfunction medicines seized in Glengormley

8 April 2011

Large amounts of unlicensed medications have actually been seized by Department of Health officials during a search of a house in Glengormley.

A man was interviewed by department officers about unlawfully importing and subsequently providing unlicensed impotence medicines via the internet.

The 47-year-old was also questioned about other medication offences.

He will now be the subject of a report to the Public Prosecution Service.

The search was by the department's Medicines Regulatory Group.

Its senior enforcement workplace, Peter Moore, said: "It is essential that we get the message throughout that unlicensed medicines can be dangerous.

"These types of items being sold, normally online, have undergone no quality assurance and there can be no assurance about their safety.

"You simply do not understand what you are taking or the conditions these products were made in. More notably, you do not understand the impact drugs like this might have on your health."
